Delete your account
Last updated: 22 April 2026
mooney is published by Octyn. This page explains how to request deletion of your mooney account and the data tied to it, what gets removed, and what we are required to keep.
1. How to request deletion
- Send an email to admin@octyn.co from the email address you use to sign in to mooney (this is how we verify the request is really yours).
- Subject line:
Delete my mooney account. - You don't need to include anything else in the body. If you want to tell us why, we appreciate the feedback — but it's optional.
- We'll acknowledge your request within 48 hours and complete deletion within 30 days. You'll get a confirmation email once it's done.
2. What gets deleted
When we process your request, the following are permanently removed:
- Your mooney account record (email address, user ID, sign-in tokens) on our authentication provider.
- Your encrypted cloud backup file and all past backup history stored under your user folder.
- Product analytics events tied to your user ID (PostHog).
- Your subscription/entitlement customer record on RevenueCat, our subscription management provider.
- Any support correspondence containing your account identifiers, within our standard correspondence-retention cycle.
3. What we keep, and why
A small amount of data is retained either because the law requires it, or because it has been stripped of identifiers:
- Subscription transaction records — if you ever had a paid subscription, Google Play Billing retains payment records in their own systems for tax, accounting, and regulatory reasons. We cannot delete those from Google. On our side, we may keep a minimal anonymized record (subscription period, amount, currency — no user identifiers) for up to 7 years to comply with Indian tax and accounting rules.
- Aggregated and anonymized analytics — event counts, retention cohorts, and other metrics that have been stripped of user identifiers and cannot be linked back to you.
- Security and abuse logs — authentication and server logs needed to investigate fraud or abuse, retained for up to 90 days and then deleted automatically.
4. What happens to data on your phone
Most of your mooney data lives only on your phone in an encrypted local database, and it never reaches our servers unless you explicitly turned on cloud backup. To remove that local data:
- Open Settings → App info for mooney on your phone and tap Clear storage; or
- Uninstall the app. On Android, uninstalling removes everything the app stored locally.
These steps don't require any involvement from us and take effect immediately.
5. Deleting some data without closing your account
If you don't want to close your account but want to remove specific data, you have options:
- Individual records — swipe any expense, split, budget, or subscription inside the app to delete it. These deletions take effect immediately on device and sync to your cloud backup the next time a backup is created.
- Your entire cloud backup, without closing your
account — email
admin@octyn.co
with subject
Delete my mooney cloud backup. We'll wipe the backup files tied to your user ID while keeping your account active. A self-service button for this is coming in a future release. - Sign out — signing out from mooney's Settings screen removes your session on this device but does not touch your cloud backup. You can sign back in from any device to restore.
6. If you can no longer access the email on your account
If you've lost access to the email tied to your mooney account, write to admin@octyn.co from any address explaining the situation. We'll do our best to verify your identity through other signals (approximate sign-up date, a recent transaction you remember, device characteristics) before processing the deletion. We may ask follow-up questions; this is deliberate and exists to protect the account's real owner.
